Winterized Radler

by James Stevenson

While visiting family for the holidays I was shopping at Walmart and in the alcohol section this giant magnum of Heineken caught my eye and I thought it would be great for a cocktail shoot. I have made a few beer cocktails in the past and found a good pale lager is perfect to add a little depth to the cocktail without overpowering the other flavors.

The Radler is one of the most popular beer cocktails and has a long history in German speaking countries where Radler translates to “Cyclist” and although the true history is lost of the cocktails origins it is said that was created because the cyclists needed a refreshing drink that was lighter in alcohol. Though the original creation calls for equal parts beer and lemonade so with the modern addition of hard alcohol I think this cocktail has only gotten better with age.
