Pike Place Spritz

We had such a great time being able to visit the Heritage Distilling tasting room in Seattle and were so inspired to mix up some delicious cocktails now that we have a better understanding of the nuances of the whiskey. We decided to continue working with the BSB and found some beautiful spring ingredients at the Pike Place Market, including some fresh strawberries to make a strawberry simple syrup that pairs perfectly with the brown sugar and cinnamon flavors of the BSB. With this cocktail, we wanted something that really balanced the BSB, and delivered a fresh, crisp profile that can be enjoyed all throughout the warmer months ahead.

BSB isn’t your usual bourbon, as it is an acronym from Brown Sugar Bourbon, which offers a delicious brown sugar profile that comes through with a great finish of cinnamon. With this in mind, we needed to find some crisp fresh ingredients to balance the bourbon as well as a lengthener to balance all of these components. We came across a great local lemon soda water and it worked perfectly to impart the crisp lemon flavor, however, it wasn’t quite enough to cut through the BSB and strawberry simple syrup, so we added in a little fresh lemon juice to give this concoction that great punch you expect from the lemon juice.

Recipe:

Method:

  1. Combine BSB, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Shake to chill and combine ingredients
  3. Strain into a glass over fresh ice
  4. Top with lemon soda water
  5. Garnish & Enjoy!
