Ghoolish Gaur

With Halloween so close I love experimenting with flavors and colors I feel best represent the holiday. When thinking of Halloween one of the primary colors that sticks in my head is orange because of all the jack-o’-lanterns you see scattered around the neighborhoods. I felt like the spiced pumpkin thing had been done quite a bit already so I used the color in a new way to create this variation on a classic Sidecar cocktail. Some may say the brandy is what makes the Sidecar what it is but in my variation I used some spice whiskey to give it an extra little holiday kick. We had recently been playing around with Gaur Spice Whiskey and thought the flavors would be great in this Halloween cocktail with the primary profile consisting of cinnamon, ginger, clove and nutmeg. Introducing some orange juice bought great balance to this cocktail and allowed me to lengthen it so I could drink a few extras throughout the day.

Recipe:

  • 2 ounces Gaur Spice Whiskey
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • ¾ ounce lemon juice
  • ¾ ounce triple sec
  • 1 cup ice

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker
  2. Shake hard to combine and chill ingredients
  3. Double strain into cocktail glass of your choice
  4. Enjoy!
