Let the winter melt away and enjoy Eataly’s new winter alps inspired restaurant on the roof

New York, NY (October 31, 2018) – Eataly NYC Flatiron announced today the opening of SERRA ALPINA by Birreria, a winter pop-up restaurant on the roof inspired by the rare Stella Alpina flower found in the Italian Alps sweeping across northern Italy.

Opening November 8, the minute guests step into SERRA ALPINA, they will enter a winter wonderland featuring the snow-white flowers, twinkling lights, and views of the snowy city skyline through the retractable glass roof. The down-to-earth atmosphere invites guests to escape the cold streets of Manhattan and relax with a drink in hand or in the lounge while enjoying high-quality Italian food made with ingredients from Eataly’s favorite producers in the US and Italy.

SERRA ALPINA’s menu will feature a library of unique cheeses coming from Italy with a focus on the ones from the Northern regions like Trentino and Veneto. From antipasti options like Sciatt, or “Little Toads” in Italian, which is made by frying the Veneto cheese Piave Vecchio (cow’s milk aged for 6 months) into a buckwheat and beer batter, to an all-new primi selection like Gnocchi alla Romana with Taleggio fonduta and Maitake mushrooms, and Gnocchi di Patate with gorgonzola cream, walnuts, and dried cherries, SERRA ALPINA will satisfy your melted cheese dreams this holiday season.

From the old tradition of melting the piece of wheel close to the open fire, to the modern version of it with the table-top grill, Raclette, will be part of the menu at SERRA ALPINA and served with different pairings such as potatoes, pickled vegetables and Prosciutto Cotto, or with Pane con Cacio, Eataly’s housemade bread.

Perfectly accenting the food, SERRA ALPINA’s cocktail program will include a new selection of Northern Italian wines and a variety of vin brulè, or spiced mulled wines, like the one-of-a-kind Stella Alpina made with the white wine Moscato d’Asti DOCG and steeped with orange peel, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, and allspice berries.  It will also feature the widest selection available in New York of Italian Amari – a digestif made by herbs, barks, seeds, spices, flowers, and botanicals – which, will allow guests to conclude their dining experiences with the perfect Italian tradition.

Rounding out the overall farm-to-table experience at SERRA, herbs, and spices included in diners’ dishes and drinks will be sourced from the rooftop’s newest installation: a vertical, hydroponic farm. The installation, designed by New York’s renowned hydroponic facility Farm. One, grows ingredients such as bush basil, pluto basil, nepitella, peppermint, and marjoram.

SERRA ALPINA will be open through Spring. Hours of operation are Monday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations are available on OpenTable. For more information call (212) 937-8910 or visit
