Chipotle Cilantro Margarita

by James Stevenson

Today I am craving something spicy! After yesterdays over the top milkshake I need something light, spicy, and refreshing! I have a weak spot not only for spicy food but spicy drinks especially those with tequila. There is something so magical about spicy Margaritas and I just can’t get over it. I love using jalapeños in Margaritas but wanted to try something new; something smoky.

So, I decided to use chipotle peppers in adobe sauce to make this drink smoky and spicy all in one. I have only cooked with chipotle peppers in adobe sauce so I wasn’t sure how the drink would translate; it translated. The cilantro and orange juice provide a sweetness and earthiness that brings an overall balance to the cocktail. With the addition of the Tajin seasoning rim on the glass this Margarita is complete and so very tasty. I am thinking about making this into a punch for a group of friends this weekend. In a glass pitcher this would be so beautiful with the orange and green tones. Wake up your taste buds with this spicy and smoky Margarita. It will wake up your day and kick your life up a notch because if you don’t do it who else will! Be smoky and be spicy!
