Today is Nation Coffee Day and in appreciation for this amazing be beverage that has helped me through almost every day I am posting this Espresso Martini made with elit. The gomme syrup is optional depending on how much of a coffee snob you are; personally I am fond of a rich espresso so I went down to my favorite barista in Seattle and had him make me a few to go so I could take them home and experiment. The traditional espresso martini calls for vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso and sugar syrup. Depending on the quality of the first three you can choose how much sugar syrup to include, if any at all and I recommend playing with gomme syrup (brown sugar) which works great with the bold flavors of the coffee.

With my fresh espresso I went home and grabbed a bottle of vodka and coffee liqueur from my bar and then played around a little with different measurements until I had the perfect balance for my espresso martini. I didn’t use any gomme in my recipe as I didn’t want it to get too sweet but if you like a little sugar in your coffee and the liqueur doesn’t offer enough then it is easy to make.
