Last year in April Beautiful Booze had the opportunity to visit San Francisco and watch the top contestants battle it out for the global Bacardi Legacy competition (read all about it here). This year Bacardi has found their favorite entrant from Australia and as James is from there we decided to re-create his delicious cocktail to share with our followers.
Why is this event so special? Bacardi Legacy is a competition for serious competitors only; unless you are willing to give it your full time dedication you will not be successful. Once all of the finalists are selected they will head to Berlin to fight for supremacy on May 23rd.
So… it was decided that Dave Kerr of The Beaufort and Ike’s in Melbourne with his El Viento cocktail was to represent Australia and I have to say it is delicious. The first thing we did was watch his YouTube video on the creation of the cocktail and the first thing that grabbed our eye was our good friend Jez Spencer of West Winds Gin making a little cameo. Aside from that it was a creative and entertaining video.
So what is The Viento you ask? Here is the description we found on the Australian Bartender Website:
“El Viento, or ‘The Wind’ in Spanish, explores the fun and frivolity of drinks that dominated the noughties (1990’s). It breathes new life into drinking in a modern context that is increasingly defined by seriousness and complexity. Utilising modern processes and on trend ingredients, the depth of flavor matches today’s refined palate. Cold pressed strawberries combine with coconut oil to deliver an incredibly fresh drink with a delightful mouth-feel and a resonance to a carefree place in time.”
