Today we are posting about a fun cocktail made in collaboration with one of our fun deliveries we received. Apollo Box sent us this awesome creative Cocktail R-Evolution chemistry set where you can create these crazy edible cocktail spheres. We started with a gin martini as the base for our experiment then added the cocktail spheres in for effect and a touch of flavor. Everything turned out delicious and it was really fun creating these with my friends. Although it was cool enough with just the spheres we also added in some dry ice to make the cocktail really look like it was a lab experiment gone wrong.
First we mixed sodium alginate, tonic water and violet syrup in a bowl with a hand blender. Then in another bowl we mixed calcium lactate and water. We did step two while step one (sodium alg) sat for 15 min. After the sodium alg. had sat for 15 min to get the air bubbles out, we had the calcium mixture ready. We then took the pipette provided in the kit and filled it with the sodium/violet mixture and dripped droplets into the calcium mixture. When we'd piped all that we wanted we then scooped them out and put them in a bowl of water to rinse them off and they were ready for the cocktail.
