Hudson Sour

Hudson Sour

The New York Sour is a cocktail that hasn’t received nearly enough recognition as it deserves as it is a pre-prohibition cocktail with perfect balance. I called this one a Hudson Sour because the wine I used was from this wonderful wine region so close to the New York area and it turned out so perfect. I found a delicious Cabernet Franc and instead of using a plain simple syrup I used the Monin Tiki Blend to give it a wonderful boost of flavor that really comes through in the final cocktail and balances the lemon juice perfectly. Floating the wine on top takes a little finesse but it is definitely worth while to get the right balance with each sip.

  • 2 ounces rye
  • ¾ ounce Monin Tiki Blend
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
  • ¾ ounce cabernet franc

  1. Combine rye, Monin Tiki Blend, lemon juice and egg white in a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Shake hard to chill and combine ingredients
  3. Strain into secondary vessel
  4. Shake again without ice to increase smoothness
  5. Fine strain into coupe glass
  6. Float red wine into cocktail with bar spoon
  7. Enjoy!
